From Sweet to Striking: How AFA Brought “Strawberry Zest” to Life

From Sweet to Striking: How AFA Brought “Strawberry Zest” to Life

🤝 The Heart of the Foundry

At the intersection of playfulness and permanence stands Strawberry Zest—a 13-foot monument to flavor, color, and imagination. Sculpted by artist Jennifer Stewart and cast at American Fine Arts Foundry in Burbank, CA, this oversized berry bursts with visual impact at Garden Grove’s Fire Station 84, captivating community members and passersby alike.

But behind the whimsy lies serious craftsmanship.

🔧 The whimsy lies serious craftsmanship.

AFA’s expert team transformed Stewart’s creative vision into a towering, stainless steel-and-bronze reality, using their signature start-to-finish process. From precise 3D scanning of the original maquette to full-scale mold-making, CNC carving, and complex welding and assembly, every phase was executed with engineering precision and artistic care.

“Bringing ‘Strawberry Zest’ to life was a joyful challenge. Jennifer’s vision was bold, playful, and technically complex—and that’s exactly the kind of project we love at AFA. From 3D scanning to the final patina, every step was about honoring her creativity and engineering something truly iconic for the community.”
— Brett Barney, Chief Collaborator, American Fine Arts Foundry
